Charity Work – Help an OH son’s fundraising campaign for the Brain Tumour Charity

Adam Banwell, son of Charlie Banwell (C 76) ran in the 2021 Northumberland Marathon to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity, an effort which to date has raised nearly £8000 in donations.

As Adam writes:

On the 12th of November 2020, my father was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain cancer.  He has received and will continue to receive invaluable help from The Brain Tumour Charity, not only via the research they do, but also the support groups they give him access to, allowing him to speak to people going through similar adversities among many other things. 

In support of this, my friends, Patrick Tyrrell, Freddie Barlow, Ned Gordon and I ran the Northumberland Marathon on the 27th of February 2021.

More about Charlie Banwell (C 76)

Charlie spent many years working as a lawyer in London whilst living in Hertfordshire with his family.

For the last ten years, however, Charlie and his wife, Caroline (who, although not a pupil at Haileybury, by an extraordinary coincidence played her violin in the Haileybury orchestra Charlie was singing in the choir) and their sons, Alex, Adam and Seb (who were all at Heath Mount School where they were taught by Haileybury’s Head of Choral Music, Andrew O’Brien) have lived near Cambridge.

For the last five years Charlie has worked at Homerton College in Cambridge – where by another extraordinary coincidence the visiting singing teacher is Nick Smith (RD 83), the youngest son of Donald Smith (Staff 57-63).
