A special fundraising event in support of the chamber choir tour

Michael Freegard (BF 47) was a passionate and lifelong supporter of both The Haileybury Society and the School; music was a cause which was very close to his heart. This year’s concert reflects Michael’s passions, with a specific aim of raising £15,000 in support of travel bursaries and outreach work for Haileybury’s Chamber Choir (above).

The concert is being held to support the Chamber Choir’s forthcoming tour to Australia and Malaysia in July. The Symphony Orchestra will play Dvo?ák’s Symphony No. 8, and the School’s massed choirs will perform Poulenc’s Gloria.

The tour offers not only signficant educational benefits to the Choir members but will also highlight Haileybury’s ethos of Spirit of Service. While in Malaysia, the Choir be performing at a number of prestigious venues as well as undertaking exciting work with local schools, alongside already established programmes that promote music-making in education.

In Australia, the Choir will stay in boarding accommodation at Haileybury Rendall, Darwin, delivering two concerts in local recital venues, including the Catholic cathedral. Travelling on to Melbourne, it will sing Evensong at the Anglican cathedral, perform alongside the choir of Haileybury Melbourne, and sing in other concert venues in the city.
