Following the death of Peter Ellis (Staff, 1964-96) earlier this year, The Haileybury Society was asked by the family to collect donations in Peter’s memory.
Ultimately £2000 was raised, which was then divided equally between two chosen charities: the Professional Cricketers’ Trust (which supports the health and well-being of professional cricketers and their families) and The Sporting Memories Foundation (which tackles dementia, depression and loneliness using sporting memories).
Appreciation from Sporting Memories’ CEO
The Sporting Memories Foundation has since been in touch with us to thank The Society for its donation, further details of which you can read here.
Chris Wilkins, CEO of Sporting Memories, reflected “It is with deep appreciation and respect that we accept this donation in memory of the life of Peter Ellis (left). Donations, such as this, are invaluable to us as a small charity and the money will go towards us helping isolated older sports fans and former players living with long-term conditions in the community through a common love of sport.”
Thanks from the Professional Cricketers’ Trust
Elaine Nelson of the Professional Cricketers’ Trust has also been in touch to thank The Society on behalf of the PCA’s trustees for the £1000 it received as part of the collection in Peter’s memory. “The donation received is very much appreciated”, she said.
The Haileybury Society would like to thank all OHs who gave generously to this worthwhile cause, truly reflecting the school’s own ethos of spirit of service and the Society’s own objective to provide a network of support for OHs.
