Starting today (3rd May), Andrew Harrison (L 98) is embarking on a (mostly) solo journey – cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End, with the aim of reaching the tip of Cornwall in just 14 days. He is raising money for Humans for Rights Network and their amazing work.
All donations will have a tangible effect, especially to the unaccompanied children that they are helping – over 600 since January 2023.
Over 14 stages, the longest being 89 miles and the shortest 53 miles, Andrew will be cycling from the very top to the very bottom of mainland UK.
The vast proportion of his trip will be solo; just Andrew, his tent and lots of food. At Bristol he will be making a detour to Bath before carrying on the remaining 230 miles with his good friend Lou Lou.
About Humans for Rights Network
Humans for Rights Network (HRN) is a grassroots human rights organisation, set up to facilitate an increase in opportunity for people seeking sanctuary to report rights violations and access justice. The charity works collaboratively with refugees and asylum seekers to expose mistreatment and challenge systemic harms.
Its work has three core strands, individual access to justice, using evidence to achieve systemic change and working alongside people seeking sanctuary to develop strategy to tackle rights violations and hostile immigration policies and rhetoric collectively through discussion, resourcing, and training.
HRN works extensively with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children who, after arrival in the UK are often without protection. Since January 2023 the charity has worked with over 600 children, working alongside them to ensure they are able to access protection and their rights.
Without this work these children would remain living alongside adults and without the care and support they need to access education, and recover from often incredibly traumatic journeys.
By working with these young people HRN develops a greater understanding of their needs and experiences, which in turn allows the charity to consider ways in which its work can address some of the systemic problems that are preventing these young people from accessing safety in the UK.
HRN seeks to ensure that those forced to seek sanctuary in the UK, are aware of their rights and have the means to access them which may include the reporting of incidents when these rights are violated, but also a collaborative approach where individual are able to access justice and meaningful change to their circumstances but also a collective approach to ensuring systemic change and wider accountability.
HRN’s vision is that those in need of safety can access this without fear for their rights or reprisal. That the UK provides a lawful, compassionate asylum system rooted in humanity.

In an increasingly toxic political environment surrounding refugees in the UK, HRN’s work shines a light on the desperate need for help required by children travelling unaccompanied from abroad.
Andrew’s ride aims to raise £3000 for HRN’s valuable work For more information, and to donate, please visit Andrew’s Chuffed page here
