Running for Hope: OH Ella McAleer (C 18) Takes on Half Marathon to Save Young Lives

The Haileybury community has always been defined by a spirit of service, compassion and global outlook. It is in this spirit that OH Ella McAleer (C 18) is taking on an inspiring challenge this spring, running the AJ Bell Manchester Half Marathon on 31 May in support of a cause very close to her heart.

Currently completing her third year at the University of Manchester, Ella is raising funds for Tumaini La Maisha (TLM), a charity dedicated to providing life-saving cancer treatment to children in Tanzania who would otherwise have little or no access to care.

Ella’s connection to the charity is deeply personal, this is far more than a race. Having grown up in Tanzania, she was fortunate to spend time volunteering with TLM, witnessing first-hand the extraordinary dedication of its staff and the courage of the children and families it supports. Those experiences left a lasting impression, one that continues to shape her commitment to the cause today.

Ella’s determination is also rooted in personal loss. After losing her mother, Linda, to cancer at a young age, she understands all too well the devastating impact the disease can have on families. It is this perspective that makes her fundraising effort so meaningful, and so powerful.

Through her half marathon effort, Ella hopes not only to raise vital funds, but also to give hope, supporting children who might otherwise go without the treatment they urgently need.

Ella shares:

“Knowing that there are organisations like TLM making such a difference is why this cause means so much to me. Any donation, no matter how small, can make a real difference.”

The Haileybury community is warmly encouraged to support Ella in her fundraising journey. Every contribution will help provide critical care and hope to children and families in need.
