We are delighted to share the news that Colonel Nigel Jordan-Barber (K 88) has been granted permission to wear the United States Legion of Merit (Degree of Legionnaire), a prestigious American military decoration recognising exceptional service and achievement.

The honour acknowledges Nigel’s contribution as Deputy Director for Operations at the Combined Joint Task Force Headquarters for Operation Inherent Resolve, a multinational military operation focused on combating ISIS (Daesh) in Iraq and Syria.

Nigel held this senior operational appointment from March 2024 to March 2025, working within an international military command responsible for coordinating coalition operations.

The Legion of Merit is a distinguished US military decoration awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements. Its award to a British Army officer represents significant recognition of his contribution to international military cooperation.

Permission for Nigel to wear the decoration was formally announced as part of The King’s Birthday Operational Honours and Awards List in June 2026, marking official British recognition of the American honour.

A Colonel in the British Army, Nigel’s achievement reflects the dedication, leadership and professionalism required of those serving in senior military appointments.

The Haileybury Society extends its warmest congratulations to Nigel on this thoroughly deserved recognition. We are always delighted to celebrate the achievements of our OH community, and this is certainly an accomplishment of which he can be immensely proud.
