We are sorry to share the passing of Commander Robin Edward Douglas House, RN (K 58-62) on Thursday 18th December 2025, aged 80.
At Haileybury Robin was in the Shooting VIII in 1962. He went on to the Britannia Royal Naval College in 1963.
Robin’s father was Commander John House OBE DSC (ISC [E] 30) who had a very distinguished Naval service record in WW2 and his brother was Timothy House K 63) who sadly died in a diving accident in 1973, aged only 24.
During his long and distinguished Naval career he was ADC to the Commander of the British Forces in the Gulf in 1970, commanded HMS Highburton in 1976 and promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 1976, when he commanded HMS Hubberston. He was Staff Operational Officer HMS Tamar in 1982, and went on to command HMS Dumbarton Castle in 1983. He was promoted to Commander in 1985 and joined the Third MCM (mine countermeasures) Squadron in 1989. He was at the Ministry of Defence from 1991 until his retirement in 1998, when he became Warden of St Katherine’s House in Wantage. After St Katherine’s he became Clerk to the Gold & Silver Wyre Drawers from 2006-2016
He was a Member of the Nautical Institute and a Fellow of the British Institute of Management.
