Oliver Lepage-Dean (K 02) – Young Lives vs Cancer

Spirit of Service is an ethos central to the life of every Old Haileyburian. Speaking with Oliver Lepage-Dean (K 02) and learning of his recent charitable initiative, we were more than happy to share this with the greater OH community in hope to help raise much needed funds and awareness.

‘’Since leaving Haileybury, I completed a four-year voice course at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich. After graduating, I began teaching at St John’s College School in Cambridge, with a few self-employed years in between spent touring, gigging, and recording with my band lepagedeanmusic.co.uk / @lepagedeanmusic. I also taught singing at Haileybury and St Faith’s School for a couple of years.

After undergoing an operation on my voice, things changed. When the Deputy Housemaster role became available at SJCS, I took it on, and I’m now going into my third year in this position, teaching both sports and music. Living in the boarding house also gives me the chance to tour with the world-renowned St John’s College Choir. Once my voice is back to full strength, I hope to relaunch my music career.’’

On the 6th of September, Oliver will be running the Sea2Sky 53km Ultra Marathon through Snowdonia. The race starts in Barmouth and ascends to the summit of Cadair Idris, offering a challenging and scenic experience from “sea to sky”.

Oliver says ‘’I’m doing this run for myself, but also for something very close to my heart.

A family I’ve known for a long time—and even lived with for a while—has been through a really tough few months. Their eldest son, Sam, has been battling lymphoma. Thankfully, Sam is now on the mend, which is amazing news. He’s a brilliant young lad, and they’re a truly wonderful family.

I visited them recently and asked if I could run this race in support of Sam. They told me that Young Lives vs Cancer has been an incredible source of help throughout everything. So I’d like to use this opportunity to raise awareness for the charity and the many children and families they support through difficult times like this.’’

Young Lives vs Cancer help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. By supporting Oliver, you can help families receive the support they need at a time most crucial.
