The Haileybury Society is saddened to learn of the death of Major General John Vincent Homan, CB (ISC & K 41) who has died after a period of failing health on Friday 28th January, aged 94.
Haileyburian and Kiplingite
His son, Andrew Homan (K 71) tells us that he was very proud of his ISC and Haileybury heritage, and his time at Kipling was very happy. He was President of the Haileybury Society in 1995-96, and an enthusiastic supporter of annual Kipling-Le Bas house dinners in London.
Successful career
At Haileybury John played for the XXX in 1944 and represented the school at Swimming and Boxing in 1945. He enjoyed a long career in the army, progressing from Captain, then Major, then Lt. Colonel, before being promoted to Colonel in 1970 and Major General in 1978. John was awarded a CB in 1980 and eventually retired from the army in 1982 before joining the defence concern Man Matra Marconi where he worked until he retired in 1992.
John was a tremendously active and engaged member of The Society and well-respected within the OH community for his many contributions over the years. He will be missed and warmly remembered by all those who knew him. The Haileybury Society sends its deepest condolences to John’s family and friends at this difficult time.

John’s funeral will be held at 2.00 pm at Salisbury Crematorium on Thursday 24 February, and his family have said that it goes without saying that any Haileybury friends will be most welcome.
