OH Lizzie McKenna (Alb 15) is taking on the incredible challenge of the London Marathon 2026, raising funds for the vital work of Teenage Cancer Trust.
Every day, seven young people aged 13–24 in the UK are told they have cancer. Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting this age group, funding specialist nurses, youth support teams, and hospital units within the NHS. Their work ensures that young people receive not just treatment, but the care and support they need to continue living their lives during and after cancer.
Lizzie’s motivation for supporting this cause is deeply personal. One of her closest friends, Sala, was diagnosed with cancer as a teenager. Having spent years running together, the pair previously completed the Birmingham Half Marathon and have now set their sights on the ultimate challenge: the London Marathon.
Since leaving Haileybury, Lizzie has been studying for an MSci in Psychology and Psychological Practice at the University of Birmingham. She is currently undertaking a placement in educational psychology, where she supports young people facing a wide range of challenges. Alongside her academic work, she has continued her passion for sport, playing hockey for the university and pushing herself with new endurance challenges.

Inspired by her previous half marathon experience, Lizzie decided to take on a full marathon. Something she has always wanted to achieve, while making a meaningful difference. By running the London Marathon, Lizzie hopes to raise funds to support young people facing cancer and to contribute to the life-changing work of Teenage Cancer Trust.
She would be incredibly grateful for any support from the Old Haileyburian community.
