Live Forever?
John S Tregoning (L 90), Professor of Vaccine Immunology at Imperial College, London has written a second popular science book entitled Live Forever? (a Curious Scientist’s Guide to Wellness, Ageing and Death).
John’s book launch at the famous Daunt Books in Marylebone High Street on 9th January 2025 was attended by some of his OH friends (Suse Flint Cahan (B & Alb 93), Rachel Rank (Th & Alb 93) and Tony Charalambides (K 90).
In his research John tried various health hacks from gene sequencing to cold water swimming to brain-training apps to weight loss drugs to less red meat/more veggies/no alcohol/more sleep/less calories/more fibre …. if you can name it John has probably tried it!
How to live better
John concludes that we can all live better by a combination of things we already know, but may struggle to do –
Drink less (or ideally none)
Don’t smoke or vape
Eat a healthy balanced slightly calorie-deficient diet with plenty of fibre, more veg than meat, less salt, less sugar, home-cooked with olive oil and extra vitamin D. Exercise every day – get outside and get your heart beating, plus stretching and strengthening your muscles. He suggests we should all embrace nature, stay connected and socialise, and look after your eyes, teeth and sexual health.
John’s first book is Infectious: Pathogens and How We Fight Them. He also has over sixty academic papers to his name.
Both John’s books are available from Daunt books https://dauntbooks.co.uk/ and Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=john+tregoning&crid=35GVCM1E0WT7H&sprefix=john+tregoning%2Caps%2C101&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
