It started with a hymn…

There is no greater story than a Haileybury love story – Olivia Duckworth (H 10) & Joe Reed (LS & BF 11) were happy to share theirs with us!

“We met through choir in 2013 and are both still keen singers now. We were both members of Chapel & Chamber choirs in school & Joe went on to be part of the Chapel Choir at Exeter University (2016-2019).

So we’ve now been together for almost 11 years!! Which is crazy to think about now, as we met when we were in Vths and L6th. Chapel was such an important and special part of our time in school. It’s funny how much you can miss a building when you leave. We both looked forward to chapel as a moment we got to see each other, as well as sing some great hymns. Our love of hymns definitely went into the wedding where we managed to squeeze in 4 of our favourites during the ceremony.

I asked Rev Briggs when I was in Removes if I could get married in Chapel and he told me I had to find someone to marry first! Before I left in 2015, Rev Briggs told me that he had a sneaky suspicion I had found that person.

Joe proposed on the choir balcony in Chapel in December of 2022.  There was no doubt in our mind that we would be back in the Summer to get married as there was no better place for us.

We got married on the 1st of June 2024 in Chapel with Rev Stoltz performing the ceremony. A large majority of the bridal party were OH’s (Georgina Caney, Claudia Knight, Amelia Reed, Hugh Bradley, Jaden Tollman, Tom Duckworth) which was very special, and a great opportunity to reminisce. We had a beautiful service which felt so personal and we couldn’t have thought of a better location to celebrate.”

We offer our huge congratulations to the newlyweds Mr & Mrs Reed, wishing you a wonderful journey as you build your life together!
