SCIENTIFIC EXPLORATION SOCIETY APPOINTS AN OLD HAILEYBURIAN
COLONEL MARTIN ROMILLY OBE: Formerly of the Royal Anglian Regiment, Martin was a founder member of Scientific Exploration Society (SES) in 1969. He had been John Blashford-Snell’s information officer on the successful Great Abbai (Blue Nile) expedition in 1968. Martin carried out a detailed recce of the River Zaire (Congo) in 1971-72, with Richard Snailham FRGS, resulting in the plan for the main Zaire River expedition in 1974. Colonel Martin Romilly OBE has been appointed to the SES’s prestigious Advisory Board; he is proud to be the first Old Haileyburian to achieve this honour.
