The Haileybury society is saddened to learn today of the death of Ian Francis Smith (Aby 56) who has died at the age of 78 on 1st January 2022.
OH Paul Raworth (Aby 56) has written to tell us about his friend:
‘After leaving Haileybury Ian trained as an accountant and then became involved in the computer industry. He first joined British Olivetti on the sales and marketing side for the first desk top computer.
He continued in the computer and PC industry and for the last eleven years before retirement was Managing Director of the UK subsidiary of a major Japanese printer and component manufacturer where he established the distribution network and brand throughout the UK for Star Micronics printers.
Sportsman with love of cricket
He was a keen sportsman playing cricket and rugby after leaving Haileybury, and as a member of the MCC he enjoyed many days watching at Lord’s with fellow Haileyburians.
He particularly enjoyed playing golf and was captain of his local club, The Springs Golf Club in Wallingford, South Oxfordshire, where he made many friends.
The Society extends its deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to Ian’s wife Muz together with family and friends.
