The Haileybury Society is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Patrick John Curry (C 66) who has died on 31st March 2020, aged 66. He had been admitted to hospital with suspected symptoms of the coronavirus.
After Haileybury Patrick studied Modern History at St Andrews University, where he was awarded an MA in 1981. His career was spent in shipbroking where he developed a particular specialisation in chartering chemical tankers, a skill which led to him being known as “a giant” of his industry.
Patrick was a keen cyclist and golfer. He was a member of the MCC and his local golf club but is remembered by OH golfers for his involvement with the Old Haileyburian Golf Society; it is from one of the OHGS’s members, Lawrence Baker (C 76), from whom we heard this terrible news this morning.
More details concerning Patrick’s career, and comments from his friends, is contained within the attached article from Tradewinds, the leading shipping journal, which is the source of the photograph of Patrick (above).
The Haileybury Society sends its deepest condolences to Patrick’s wife Sarah and their family and friends at this distressing time.
