Random Recollections of Haileybury by RL Ashcroft
Random Recollections of Haileybury by RL Ashcroft
This diminutive publication is a period delight, published (as the author asserts) "as a result of an insistent demand from many Old Haileyburians".
The result is a time capsule of life at Haileybury in the 1950s and, in particular, a casual reflection on a British society which today is largely unrecognisable:
At that moment the lodge bell rang for the end of the lesson, and I said "I must hurry off into school now; and many thanks to you all for all you've told me. I'll come again next Summer. 2nd June, I'll not forget. Till then, good-bye"
"Good-bye - and good luck!" - said the Lightning Oak
A quite charming little book which almost brings a tear to the eye for all that we have lost.
Note: Only a very small quantity of these books now remain. They are printed in hardback with dust jacket.
