Haileybury history

Image of Chapel and Terrace at Haileybury

Established in 1862, Haileybury began its life on the quadrangle of the former East India College, which had closed in 1858. Today it is a fully co-educational school with intake split 50:50 between boys and girls.

Use these pages to find out more about Haileybury’s history, about former pupils who have died on active service and to send us your memories about your own time on Quad.

Strawberry Hill House & Garden - Wednesday 11th June 2025

Product Details

Strawberry Hill House and Garden, Twickenham

Wednesday 11th June 2025, 10.30am

£37.50 per person to include lunch

We are delighted to offer Society members a very special tour of Strawberry Hill House in Twickenham https://www.strawberryhillhouse.org.uk/

This extraordinary building, created by Horace Walpole in the 18th century, is internationally famous as Britian’s finest example of Georgian Gothic revival architecture, and now displays an increasingly important collection of paintings and objects d’art.

Our tour will commence promptly at 11am and will last approximately 90 minutes. After our tour a buffet lunch, with tea, coffee and soft drinks will be served in a private area of the café which is housed in the great cloister and enjoys attractive views of the garden. Our visitors will then have ample time to explore the lovely garden and visit the gift shop until the house closes at 4pm.

Include your spouse/partner/guest when booking!

For those travelling by car please use sat nav TW1 4ST - there is some free parking adjacent to the house and on local roads, or pay and display car parks in Twickenham town centre. The garden area is open from 9am so we suggest you arrive early to ensure a parking space within the grounds. For public transport users there are four trains an hour from Waterloo to Strawberry Hill and regular trains and buses to Richmond and Twickenham. At the time of writing buses which serve Strawberry Hill are the 33 and the R68 but we advise you to check your individual travel arrangements nearer the time.

The house has a lift for those with restricted mobility and both house and garden are accessible to wheelchair users.

If you have any mobility needs or specific dietary requirements, do please indicate this on the booking form or by dropping us an email members@thehaileyburysociety.org

Please support your Society with a donation: as a charitable organisation, The Haileybury Society relies on gifts and donations from its members to enable it to deliver its obligations. If you would also like to consider a donation to the Haileybury Society to help with our costs in organising this event, you can add a donation from the drop-down menu.
