Society Secretary
Jane Everard (L 76 & Alb)
Jane’s Haileybury story goes back 50 years to when her father Robert Etherington was appointed as RMO on Dr Turtle’s retirement in 1974. Two years later Jane joined the LVI in Lawrence and is proud to be both an Old Lawrentian and a founder member of Alban’s the first girls house, which opened in the Old San building in 1977.
After Haileybury Jane worked for prestigious fashion house Windsmoor in London’s West End for 5 years, marrying OH Doug Everard (BF 73) in 1982 and giving up work a year later to start a family. Their first son was born with complex health and intellectual disabilities which has dominated their home life and made work opportunities outside the home quite difficult for Jane but she set up a design company in 1989 and worked in partnership with a close friend for 15 years creating bespoke designs for local councils & places of interest in the north west.
Jane became involved with the Haileybury Society in the late 1990s and joined the General Committee in 2000, becoming a trustee in 2001, at which time her son Tom (BF 01) joined the LVI. After 6 years as a trustee Jane had a short break and returned to the committee in 2009, becoming President elect in 2011 and President from 2012-14, also taking on the Society Secretary role during that time. Jane is committed to the Society and its ethos of support for all Haileyburians, especially as her own circle of OH friends has been such amazing important source of strength to her over the years.
Jane has managed her adult son’s care team since 2006; this arrangement enables him to live in his own home fully supported by a dedicated and committed team who work closely with the family. She also works with Doug in his energy sector management consultancy business. Family life is busier than ever with a 5 year old granddaughter and there is little time for hobbies beyond the Society and family other then walks with a Labrador, theatre trips, upcycling projects and shopping!

Fiona Illingworth (BF 76 & Alb) (President Elect 2023/4)
From the moment I was shown Haileybury by my father, Henry Short (BF 43) I knew it was where I wanted to finish my education and Haileybury did not disappoint. I was the third generation and fifth Short to go to Haileybury and in those days we were chosen not necessarily for our academic prowess, as they wanted girls to fit in at all levels of the school and so for the next two years, I immersed myself in English Literature, French, History, singing and drama, joining the Political Society and instigating the Scottish Dancing Ball.
Haileybury gave me so much in terms of confidence, an ability to speak to anyone, a love of church music and English Literature the importance of service to others and several life-long friends – all of which I will always be grateful for. Since leaving school it has been my honour to be the first OH girl to serve on the General Committee and I am also a Trustee of the Society.
Over the years, I have worked as a PA to several Managing Directors, run ski chalets, been an exams officer for children with learning difficulties and now run my own business as an independent funeral celebrant. I am married to Robin who is Senior Partner of a Solicitors in East Sussex with offices in London and who specialises in property matters, including several vineyards in the South East. I have two adult sons; the eldest, Toby, is Operations Manager for Safedrop Ukraine and currently lives in L’viv and travels extensively throughout the country delivering medical, food and clothing aid and has recently set up a blood donation initiative out there. My younger son, Marcus, is a Success Coach at the University of Rio Grande in Ohio, where he went to university and was a Soccer and Academic Scholar.
I look forward to serving the Haileybury Society as President Elect and, in time, as President and continuing to strengthen ties with the school in the future and meeting as many OHs as possible in order to preserve the important position of the Haileybury Society to both its members and the school.
