Members of The Haileybury Society from Scotland and Northern England enjoyed a wonderful OH reunion at the Hotel du Vin in Edinburgh on Friday 6th October.
The evening began with a Champagne reception during which old friends and family gathered and new acquaintances were made. We were sorry that David Sankey (A 44) was unable to attend as he was recovering from Covid.
Family connections recalled
After dinner President Lizzie Graham (K 76 & Alb) spoke of her long family association with Haileybury as the daughter, niece, sister and cousin of OHs and how proud she is to be part of Kipling, their shared house, and to have been one of the very early girl pupils.
Donald Macleod (A 50), who was on Council for 18 years and is a Life Governor of Haileybury spoke of his having known both Lizzie’s late father Clement Coldwells (ISC & K 40) and her late uncle Canon Alan Coldwells (K 44).
This was during the 1980s when both he and Alan were Governors of the Haileybury Junior School which so many Haileybury pupils attended; he was pleased to have the opportunity to meet Alan’s son Adam Coldwells (K 82) who was equally delighted by the connection.
The importance of ‘corporate memory’
Fond memories of Haileybury days were shared over dinner and in the bar afterwards. We were pleased that Haileybury Heritage Director and Archivist Toby Parker was able to come along as our guest. The preservation of archive material and the corporate memory are so very important to OHs; the Society gives an annual grant to the Archives department as part of its continued support of our alma mater.
