The Haileybury Society is saddened to learn of the death of Roger Edward Adlard (E 85) who has died on 5th October 2021, aged 49.
A popular and widely-respected a consultant plastic surgeon, Roger specialised in hand trauma, skin cancers, aesthetic and general plastic surgery.
Extensive medical experience
Roger qualified from The London Hospital Medical College in 1996 and trained at many leading Plastic Surgery Units including Stoke Mandeville Hospital, St Thomas’ Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead and The Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.
Taking his MSc in Surgical Sciences at University College London in 2004, he was later to spend spent 18 months on a fellowship in Melbourne, Australia.
While in Australia, he specialised in hand surgery and skin cancer and later took a further fellowship for 6 months in 2014 at Salisbury District Hospital and Odstock Burns Unit.
International acclaim
In 2015, Roger was appointed as a consultant plastic surgeon at St George’s Hospital, proving to be a keen educator involved in both University and A-Level work experience programs.
His work on his specialisms was also widely read, with many peer reviewed published papers to his name.
Roger also made many presentations, both nationally and internationally, appearing in the national press and television for his efforts in reconstructive trauma surgery, as in the case when he restored the near-severed hand of a carpenter in a 13-hour operation in 2019.
Remembering Roger
Two websites have been set up in memory of Roger; one allowing friends to share their memories and the other raising funds in his memory for the Alzheimer’s Society (Roger’s mother suffered from this terrible disease).
We are grateful to Dan Hacking (H 85) for informing us of Roger’s death; we send our deepest sympathies to Roger’s wife and family at their sad loss.
