The Haileybury society is saddened to learn of the death of Douglas Barham-Cooper (K 44) (later changed to Cooper) who has died on April 3rd 2022, aged 90.

After leaving Haileybury, Douglas held a number of short-term jobs before going into the army for his National Service, after which he studied to become a pharmacist like his father.

On qualifying, he married his wife Angela, working first in industry then, following a short spell in Pakistan, they bought a pharmacy business in Bury St Edmunds in mid 1960s, a business still run by one of the couple’s two sons. Both sons, indeed, attended Haileybury; Gregory (K 73) and Nicholas (K 76).

The school boards reveal that Douglas was a sportsman, with a particular love of golf; a sport he continued to enjoy well into his eighties despite suffering from very bad arthritis.

A Requiem Mass will be held at The St Edmund’s Chapel, West Suffolk Crematorium and Cemetery, Bury St Edmunds, Monday 25th April at 12 noon, followed by burial.

The Society extends its deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to Douglas’s wife Angela, their two daughters and sons on their sad loss.
