Below we list of all those from Batten House who were killed in action or died from wounds on Active Service in the Great War of 1914-18 and the Second World War, 1939-45. The fallen are listed alphabetically by surname in the year of their death. Where known, the month of death is also included.

1914-18 War

Some 55 OHs from Batten died during the Great War. The roll includes 6 MCs, a DSO and a DFC.

One family suffered terrible loss, with three brothers who were to die on active service. Marlborough (right) and his brother Cornelius (B 1905.2) died in the Great War (the latter earning an MC for the recovery of his brother’s body at Fricourt in September 1915). Their younger brother Joseph (B 1913.3) died on service during the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940.
