Hailey Roll of Honour

Hailey

Below we list of all those from Hailey House who were killed in action or died from wounds on Active Service in the Great War of 1914-18 and the Second World War, 1939-45. The fallen are listed alphabetically by surname in the year of their death. Where known, the month of death is also included.

Links to further information are given where that information is known or provided by the family.

1914-18 War

Nearly 60 OHs from Hailey died during the Great War. The roll includes 4 MCs, a DSO and a DCM.

One of the casualties was Henry Boucher (H 1906), who is commemorated at St Andrew’s Church in Hertford. His Military Cross citation says he “encouraged his men to press on through heavy machine-gun fire by going ahead of them. Later, when the enemy counter-attacked under cover of heavy mortar and shell fire, he dashed up to the front line and rallied some posts which were wavering, and pushed in supports and reserve Lewis guns, breaking up the counter-attack”.
