Why leave a legacy to the Haileybury Society?

By pledging a gift in your Will, you will help to support us in our charitable aims of supporting the OH community and the future of Haileybury.

We work hard to ensure that the OH community is a network of support for life – often helping OHs who have fallen on hard times or who have encountered difficulties through no fault of their own. We could not achieve this without the generous support of donors and benefactors.

Full details of how we support others and serve the wider community can be found here.

Three ways of leaving a legacy

There are three main ways that you can leave a gift to the Haileybury Society in your Will and these are listed. We have also provided some suggested wording for you, depending on whether you are writing a new Will, or if you are amending an existing Will by adding a Codicil.

When writing your Will, it is important that you consult your solicitor (or other suitably qualified adviser) to ensure that it suits your personal circumstances. We provide additional infomation for use by your solicitor at the end.

Leaving a residuary gift:

A Residuary Gift is a proportion of the remaining  value of your estate given after you have taken care of your family and friends.

The benefit of a Residuary Gift is that is unaffected by inflation and its value only changes in line with the value of your estate. This has the added advantage of meaning that you are less likely to need to amend your will in future.

Suggested wording for a Residuary Gift

I give ___________ percentage of my residuary estate to the Haileybury Society of 77 Railway Street, Hertford, SG14 1RP for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of an authorised officer shall be full and sufficient discharge to my executors.

Leaving a pecuniary gift:

A pecuniary gift is an sum of money specifically identified by you at the time of writing your Will.

You may wish to leave a specific sum of money to the Society in your Will. This is known as a Pecuniary Gift. Its value is likely to be affected by inflation; if you are concerned about this, you may wish to consider a Residuary Gift (see above).

Suggested wording for a Pecuniary Gift

I give the sum of £____________ to the Haileybury Society of 77 Railway Street, Hertford, SG14 1RP  for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of  an authorised officer shall be full and sufficient discharge to my executors.

Leaving a specific item

Rather than a sum of money, you may wish to bequeath a specific item which might be used to support a particular purpose.

Sometimes there is a specific item you may wish to bequeath to the Society in support of a specific purpose.  Please contact us should you wish to leave such an item(s) as it is important for us to understand your bequest and to be able to fulfil your wishes.
