The Haileybury Society provides a small number of Travel Grants to young OHs to help either with their degree courses or for travel closely connected with future work expectations.

The Haileybury Society Travel Grant

In line with their continued efforts to assist and promote educational objects in connection with Haileybury, the Society’s trustees provide annual travel grants for young OHs and pupils in their final VI form year.

Grants may be made to provide for pupils as the basis for an IB extended essay, research into an area inspired by A level work, project preparation for going to university.

For young OHs (25 or under) grants are provided as part of a degree course or to improve an individual’s study of an aspect of culture of their choice closely connected with their future work expectations.

Application process

The application process is robust and competitive. In order to support as many young people as possible our grants are usually to the order of around £500 each.

Grant applications should ideally be made annual between 1st June – 31st December.

The Grant will be paid in two tranches  – half upon acceptance of the grant offer and the remaining half upon completion of a 500 word essay, together with photographs, for publication in the Society’s e-newsletters, on our website, social media and printed matter as appropriate.

How to apply

If you are a current Haileybury pupil, please complete the application form below.

If you are an OH (up to 25) please email us a threehundred word application including your travel plans and anticipated costs.

Download and scan the form below and email it to the Society.

Examples of past travel grant awards

Examples of how grants have been used by young OHs include: Volunteer work in Ecuador; a cultural visit to Germany, Austria and eastern Europe; volunteer work on Bali; bringing A level history to life in Berlin. The images below give a flavour of how our travel grants have assisted current and former pupils at Haileybury.
