William Miller (H 65)

William writes that he was invited to give the Inaugural lecture ‘Why, When and How the Miller family came from Scotland to Gran Canaria in 1812, and what they did for (the benefit of) the Island when they came’ to launch a new International Anglo-Canarian Forum of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on Tuesday 2 December. William spoke to a large audience of students and VIPs from the University and the Island including the British and Swiss Consuls, the Rector and Vice Rector of the University, the Vicar of the English Church (founded by the Miller family) and members of the British Club of Gran Canaria. Also in attendance was Sheena Workman, a daughter of the former local representative of the OH Society, Franz Robert Workman (ISC (D) 34), and the current Managing Director of the shipping company Miller & Co (founded by the Miller family).
