Gareth George (LS & BF 97-04) – Dedication, Consistency & Hard Work

We were delighted to speak with Gareth and catch up on what he’s been up to since leaving Haileybury and share his recent news whilst representing Thailand rugby XVs.

‘Since leaving Haileybury I didn’t play rugby for more than 10 years as I focused more on coaching Rugby; the highlight being a year in Chile coaching a semi-professional side in 2015, where 7 of the guys I coached went on to represent Chile at the 2023 World Cup in France.

I started playing rugby again just before moving to Bangkok, Thailand in 2018.
I am currently the Business Manager for Brunel Thailand, who are a service solution provider specialising in Energy and Oil & Gas industry.
Outside of work I play club rugby in Division 1 of the Thailand Championship for the Bangkok Bangers and for the last 2 years represented Thailand national 15s side at Hooker (qualifying through 5-year residency rule) and have gained 4 International caps to date and have scored 1 International try’.

He tells us:

‘Last week I had the privilege of representing Thailand rugby XVs once again at the Union Cup in Taiwan. It was an incredible experience to earn my 3rd and 4th cap for the country that has been my home for the past 7 years.

Two years ago, I set a personal goal for myself, and through dedication, consistency, and hard work, I turned that dream into a reality.
I will continue to work hard in my day job and training to continue this journey for as long as possible. I am grateful to my teammates, coaches, support staff, and the overwhelming support and kind words of encouragement from my family and friends throughout the world.

Moral of the story: set goals and stay focused; you can achieve more than you think you can’.
