The Society held its AGM at the East India Club on Saturday 30th November 2024.
Lizzie Graham (K 76 & Alb) presented the President’s Statement, telling everyone present of the many successful events she had attended during the past year and giving her grateful thanks to all the trustees for their support and encouragement. She spoke of the need for OHs to consider legacy donations to the Society particularly for the benefit of pupil bursaries.
She welcomed the election of her successor, Fiona Illingworth (BF 76 & Alb). Fiona spoke of her pride at being elected and gave a commitment to represent the Society positively.
The Treasurer Robert Hall (E 69) said that the Society’s finances are in reasonably good shape with the investment portfolio performing well. He explained the launch of our new Pastoral Support fund which will use monies from the Arm in Arm appeal to support members experiencing difficult times, initially by a pilot scheme for those with mental health issues.
We were delighted to welcome the Master, Eugene du Toit, who spoke of the many successes at Haileybury which has remarkable pupils, dedicated teachers and governors. He spoke of academic excellence at exams, the new SciTech facility, thriving sports, music and other co-curricular activities, the positive sustainability of the Haileybury estate and strong partnerships with the Haileybury schools in Kazakhstan, Malta and Bangladesh.
He gave an explicit commitment to a partnership with the Society with lifetime subscriptions for all pupils to be reinstated and our return to site. As he is shortly to write a new strategic plan for the school he has asked OHs and Society members send any comments to him via the Society Secretary – jane.everard@thehaileyburysociety.org by 1st February 2025. Do please get involved with this initiative – we would love to hear your thoughts about Haileybury and to be able to pass them onto Eugene.
