Lest we forget

Once more, this Remembrance Day we are reminded of all those who have lost their lives in the service of their country and of those whose lives have been affected by war.

For Haileyburians, whose school grounds carry the names of so many of the fallen, Remembrance Day is especially poignant. On sea, on the land and in the air, over 900 Haileyburians died in two world wars alone; many others in the years since.

The Roll of Honour

Haileybury’s grounds and memorials remind us of those who have fallen and who will never be forgotten; we celebrate them in our Roll of Honour. We also pray that their sacrifice was not in vain and celebrate their unique gift – that through their loss we shall always strive for peace.

Today, with so many countries of the world again experiencing war, devastation and unspeakable brutality, we are reminded once more that we must seek out better ways for nations to resolve their differences.

This Remembrance Day, as we cherish those who have died and honour their memory, we also pray for a better, more understanding world, where nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Wreath presented at Haileybury

Each year, the Haileybury Society lays a wreath on Terrace in memory of the fallen.

This year, in a simple, dignified occasion, the wreath was laid on behalf of The Haileybury Society and its members by one of the Heads of School. A further wreath was laid on behalf of current pupils.

The photographs below show the Society wreath lying next to the Master’s wreath (which is to its right). The wreaths further to the right were laid on behalf of the different branches of the cadet force.  The bouquets of flowers were laid by House representatives.
