The Haileybury Society is saddened to learn of the death of Nigel Charles Tibbles (E 44) who has died on on 11th January 2023, aged 92.
Nigel grew up in Bromley, south London. After Haileybury he undertook his National Service in the Intelligence Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant, before studying at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada.
In 1955, the same year he met his wife Rosemary, Nigel joined the Honourable Artillery Company, with which he was to have a long association.
Nigel qualified as a solicitor in 1956 and had served as a practising Admiralty Solicitor for 30 years prior to joining the Shipwrights’ Company, at which time he was the Senior Partner of Bentleys, Stokes and Lowless.
Following his retirement from BS&L, he became Chairman of QS Holdings Plc in 1985, which owned around 100 retail clothing shops. It was during his time as Chairman that he successfully floated on the company on the London stock exchange.
Following his retirement from QS in 1991, he moved to Cap Ferrat, France in 1998 with Rosemary, who sadly died in August 2007. Nigel remained in France until late last year, when he moved back to the UK.
Nigel was an only child, a much loved husband and active father of four sons, six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, to whom The Haileybury Society sends its deepest condolences.
